- Our 2010-2011 season
... begins September 26 with Choral Evensong
at Historic Pequot Chapel. We look forward to seeing you there. |2010-2011 Schedule|
"Despite its rich tradition as a religious rite dating back to the 16th century, Choral Evensong has broadened into an artful presentation that appeals to folks of any spiritual (or non-spiritual) persuasion — though functioning ears help."
"Basically, Choral Evensong takes place in afternoon or twilight and comprises readings from the Book of Common Prayer and the sung Anglican liturgy in cathedrals or chapels. But the clustered harmonies and beauty of the music and prayer have become renowned for the sheer artistic aesthetics of the event — as opposed to being a strictly religious phenomenon."
The Anglican Singers
are pleased to announce
the appointment of
Kevin Jones
as our new Director
and
George Chittenden
as our new Organist.
Kevin Jones is Canon Precentor and Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, and also is a vocal division faculty member at the Hartt School where he serves as vocal coach and teaches courses in English, French and German diction. Over the past twenty years, he has amassed a wealth of experience in sacred music through his positions as choirmaster and organist at a number of churches, as well as founding and directing the Æxxus Music Ensemble in New York . His passionate interest in the service of Choral Evensong makes him a superb fit for our group, and we look forward to sharing our musical evolution with you. | Learn more about Kevin |
George Chittenden, an Associate of the Royal College of Organists, is both a concert organist and the newly-appointed Artist-in-Residence/Assistant Organist at Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford. At Christ Church Cathedral, George will be organizing the Midday Organ Recital series, performing as organ soloist and accompanist to the Cathedral Choir and be an active choir trainer in the Cathedral's Chorister program. Mr. Chittenden leaves the post of Assistant Organist to the Cathedral Church of St Andrew in Aberdeen, Scotland; his appointment at Aberdeen Cathedral was made in April 2006, at which time he became the youngest cathedral organist in Great Britain. | Learn more about George |
